In today’s busy world, it’s easy to lose sight of just how important it is to help others. Feeding those who are hungry, assisting small farmers in developing countries attain self-reliance and sustainability and giving those who are less fortunate hope for a better life are key elements of Mayesa’s mission.
Making a Difference Globally
As a company, Mayesa is dedicated to purchasing only fair trade, organic cacao. Fair trade practices help cacao producers in developing countries achieve better trading conditions and promote sustainability. Nearly all of the world’s cacao trees are grown on small, family farms. Almost 90% of the world’s cacao bean production comes from farms under 12 acres. By engaging in fair trade practices, Mayesa is doing our part to encourage greater equity in international trading partnerships and to help secure the rights of cacao producers.
Want to help raise awareness of fair trade practices? Saturday, May 9th is World Fair Trade Day! This initiative is put on by the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) to promote fair trade as a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty and exploitation and climate change.
Local Support
Closer to home, Mayesa is committed to giving back to the community. Recently, we donated product to the Special People, Special Needs event in Denver, Colorado. This event is free of charge to those with special needs and their families. In order to put on such an event, everything must be donated –from the tablecloths and centerpieces to the food and beverages. Mayesa is proud to have donated 1,200 cartons of our Dark Chocolate Drink for guests to enjoy.
Mayesa has also donated product to the upcoming North County Health Services Women’s Conference on May 16, 2015. This conference, held in San Diego, CA, is a day where women with HIV/AIDS can receive support and encouraging messages about taking care of themselves and making healthy choices.
Helping to End Hunger
Feeding those who are hungry is another cause that is close to our hearts here at Mayesa. We recently donated 200 cases of Mayesa Mint to the food pantry at Saddleback Church in Orange County, California. The Saddleback Church Food Pantry provides food, free of charge, to families and individuals in need. They serve over 2,500 people each month, and their needs are growing.
The Right Thing to Do
The spirit of giving back is also exhibited through Individuals within the company. For example, Susan Perrone, Mayesa’s sales manager in Arizona, met a kind-hearted and generous tour guide during a recent trip to Costa Rica. The tour guide went above and beyond to help Susan and her husband, and upon their return to the U.S., they vowed to find a doctor to repair the tour guide’s disfigured arm. Susan and her husband succeeded, and they recently flew the tour guide to Arizona for this life-changing surgery. According to Susan, it was “just the right thing to do.”
This simple phrase embodies the spirit of Mayesa. We encourage you to a lend a helping hand whenever and wherever you can – donate to your local food pantry, help sponsor an event for those in need and buy products with an unwavering commitment to fair trade practices across the globe. Together, we can make a difference.
