It’s Back to School Time! Simple Tricks For Keeping Your Kids Happy and Healthy This School Year

August 31, 2015

Back-To-SchoolSummertime often means later bedtimes, lazy mornings and less than healthy food and beverage choices. Whether your kids are already back in school or you are in your last weeks of summer break, it’s a great time to get your family back into healthy habits. Read on for some tips for getting and staying healthy during the school year!

Start the Day off Right

It’s no secret that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The challenge is to give the kids something delicious and healthy that won’t add too much time and hassle to your already rushed morning routine. Smoothies are a great option for both you and the kids. They are easy, healthy and the kids will love them!

Lunch Time

Packing lunches can sometimes feel like a thankless and mundane task. However, you can keep your kids loving lunchtime (and fueled for afternoon class) by packing a variety of delicious fresh fruits and vegetables and other nutritious foods. Mayesa is a wonderful beverage option – not only is it filled with all natural ingredients, such as organic cacao and pea protein, but it will also satisfy your kid’s desire for a sweet treat in his or her lunch box!

Snack Smart

It can be tempting with all the chaos of running from activity to activity to stop for a less than healthy snack option. That’s why it’s so important to carry grab and go snacks with you. Whether you’re at soccer practice, dance rehearsal or driving carpool, having healthy snack options handy will limit the temptation to go through the nearest drive thru.

Family Dinners

Eating together as a family is important for many reasons, including connecting with your kids and making sure they are eating a healthy meal.  Make family dinners a priority in your house. Get the kids involved in meal planning by having them take turns picking their favorite vegetables, side dishes and entrees.

Get to Sleep

Getting enough sleep is extremely important for both kids and adults. During the summer, it stays light longer and it’s anything goes when it comes to bedtime.  However, once school starts, it’s back to enforcing bedtime rules. If possible, have your kids start going to bed 10-15 minutes earlier each night starting about one week before the start of school.  Turn off the T.V. and electronic devices and get into the habit of winding down once dinner is over and homework is done. Kids who get enough sleep tend to do better in school and be much less grumpy with their parents once the alarm clock goes off in the morning!
