February is a very busy month for celebrating the heart. For most of us, we immediately think of Valentine’s Day. Have you ever wondered how the connection of the heart and love came to be? Scientifically speaking, here’s how it works: The brain sends signals to the adrenal gland, which secretes hormones such as adrenaline, epinephrine and norepinephrine. They flow through the blood and cause the heart to beat faster and stronger. But what if you aren’t taking care of your heart, scientifically speaking?
We would like to take a step away from celebrating candy and chocolates to highlighting the importance of a strong heart and, more specifically, the strong heart of women. (more…)

Here at Mayesa, we really like this shift in focus and want our fans to get outside and enjoy all nature has to offer. We also want to take this idea a bit farther and encourage you to focus not only on being outside, but also on doing the things that you love with the people you love! (more…)

I had the opportunity to visit with Glenn Matanza and discuss his passions about coaching, family and why he likes Mayesa. Glenn has his own coaching business in San Diego, The Matanza Method, which is focused on fitness and health. He works with elite athletes as well as those individuals looking to be healthier.
Glenn was born in the Philippines and moved to San Diego when he was in high school. He later attended San Diego State University with aspirations to go to medical school.
Glenn’s interest in fitness and exercise lead him to start working with individuals providing fitness training.
It was also during this time that Glenn started to realize that a medical career would be focused mainly on illness which did not really fit his focus on prevention and helping individuals stay healthy. Realizing this Glenn decided to officially start his coaching business in 1998, working with clients of all ages.
Glenn’s business has evolved with time and even included a period around 2004 when he competed in fitness and body building competitions.
In 2004 Glenn met his future wife, Nike, a successful equestrian in Europe and aspiring fashion model. They married and had their first son in 2006. They now have 2 sons and enjoy setting good examples for their sons with nutrition and exercise.
In 2007 Glenn’s coaching began to focus more on endurance sports, especially triathletes, with emphasis on nutrition education, preventing injuries, and creating good health markers.
Nike Matanza began competing in triathlons and before long was in the elite category. She joined Glenn and began coaching in 2008.
Glenn was introduced to Mayesa by one of his clients and her son. He was training both of them. Glenn evaluated Mayesa and really liked the purity of the ingredients, especially the organic, fair trade cacao and plant-based protein.
Glenn also likes that the beverage is allergen free containing NO dairy, soy or gluten, thus avoiding the side effects of these allergens.
Glenn and his family (especially his youngest son age 4) enjoy drinking Mayesa. Glenn recommends Mayesa post exercise to support energy and recovery or as a pre-exercise boost if needed.
When clients crave a “treat” Mayesa is an excellent choice according to Glenn.
Glenn’s passion for helping all his clients understand the importance of nutrition and right food choices to live a healthier life is inspiration to us all.
Thanks Glenn for including Mayesa as one of the food choices you recommend.
No matter what your daily performance includes (exercise, work, school) you want it to be optimal, and the best way to do that is proper nutrition choices with products like Mayesa.
